Djeco: Where Play Meets Art

Some toys are simply made to be played with. Others are made to be admired, treasured, and perhaps even passed on one day.

Djeco is one of those brands — a French world of toys and games where childhood imagination meets art, design, and thoughtful development.

Vibrant illustrations, distinctive characters, creative kits, puzzles, and games make Djeco products instantly recognizable, even without seeing the logo. Every creation opens the door to its own little universe.

A Story That Began in Paris

The story of Djeco began in Paris in 1954, when Véronique Michel-Dalès created her first collection of educational games for children.

At the time, the idea was refreshingly different: learning should not feel like an obligation — it should feel like play.

The first products included colorful domino games designed to introduce children to letters, numbers, syllables, and arithmetic. The collection continued to grow, and Djeco games went on to receive four Oscar du Jouet awards in France.

In 1989, the family business was taken over by the founder’s son, Frédéric Michel-Dalès. From 1993 onward, Djeco began developing new original collections and shaping the distinctive visual universe for which the brand is known today.

When a Toy Box Becomes a Little Art Gallery

One of Djeco’s defining qualities is its relationship with art.

The brand collaborates with artists and illustrators from around the world, inviting them to create unique visual universes for children. Today, the distinctive artistic identity of Djeco is shaped by the work of more than 200 artists.

That is why illustration is never simply decoration on the packaging.

It becomes part of the play itself — appearing on cards, puzzles, figurines, creative kits, and individual toy elements.

Even Djeco packaging is designed as part of the experience: something beautiful that you do not necessarily want to put away once the box has been opened.

Beautiful — But Not Just Beautiful

Behind Djeco’s recognizable aesthetics lies careful consideration of how children actually interact with a toy.

The brand’s teams work alongside designers, inventors, and specialists to ensure that each product’s functions, materials, and level of complexity are appropriate for the child’s age.

From the first idea to the finished product, the development process can take one to two years.

The result is play that does not dictate one “correct” scenario. Instead, it gives children room to experiment, imagine, create, and invent stories of their own.

The World of Djeco Goes Far Beyond a Single Category

Djeco collections include:

  • board and card games;

  • puzzles;

  • arts and crafts kits;

  • drawing and decorating sets;

  • developmental toys for younger children;

  • role-play toys;

  • construction and creative building sets;

  • figurines and complete imaginative play worlds.

This allows Djeco to accompany children through different stages of growing up — from their first encounters with shapes, colors, and fine motor skills to more complex creative projects, logic challenges, and family board games.

Play That Leaves Something Behind

Djeco does not try to turn every child into an artist, designer, or inventor.

It does something more important — it gives them the opportunity to discover what it feels like to be one.

To complete an unusual puzzle. Create a picture from scratch. Invent a story for a character. Beat their parents at a board game. Make something with their own hands and proudly say, “I made this.”

Childhood is built from moments like these.

And perhaps that is why Djeco creates more than beautiful toys.

It creates a beautiful space for a child’s imagination to grow.

Djeco is represented in Ukraine as part of the BONTOY portfolio. We develop the brand, build its product assortment, and work with national and specialized retailers to bring the world of Djeco to children and families across Ukraine.
